Business Unity South Africa (Busa) will, in August, host the Women in Business Master Class Series and the Women on Board Training, to commemorate Women’s Month and promote and embrace transformation in the workplace.
The programmes would be hosted in partnership with the Black Business Council and the Institute of Directors South Africa.
Busa CEO Khanyisile Kweyama explained in a statement that the Master Class Series aimed to create a platform for top businesswomen to share their knowledge and experiences in leading successful business organisations.
The Women on Board programme aimed to build the capacity of women to improve their representation and participation at board level.
Kweyama urged corporate South Africa to nominate employees, or partners from supplier development, enterprise development and small, medium-sized and microenterprise development programmes to participate in the two-tier programme.
“We believe that, while transformation makes business sense, the level of transformation is not satisfactory, particularly for black women and women with disabilities,” she expressed.
A 2015 Grant Thornton International Business Report concluded that the proportion of senior roles held by women had barely changed over the past decade.
