Leading Pan-African law firm, Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group has been named South African Law Firm of the Year for 2016 by Who's Who Legal.

This recognition comes hot on the heels of the firm being identified as the DealMakers leading legal adviser in Africa (by both deal value and number of transactions) for the second year running

The country winners were selected by the editors of Who’s Who Legal, after a six-month research process that included feedback from practitioners, clients and sector experts on nominations made by clients and fellow professionals.

According to Who's Who Legal, "We give Who's Who Legal awards to the outstanding firms in major jurisdictions around the globe. These are determined by the number of nominees a firm has in the publication and by their standing within the research."

Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group chairman and senior partner, Rob Legh, says, “Our South African office has a track record of providing specialist legal services, both domestic and cross-border, in the fields of corporate law, banking and finance law and dispute resolution, for more than 100 years.  We are grateful that our capabilities continue to be recognised by our clients and fellow professionals in South Africa and across the continent.”

The Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group is a Pan-African law firm with some 400 lawyers operating from eight offices in six African countries. The group works closely with leading Nigerian firm, Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, which has offices in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, and has strong relationships with other leading law firms across the rest of Africa.

This on-the-ground presence has enabled it to develop a deep knowledge of the varied legal, regulatory and business environments on the continent and to build strong relationships with regulators, government departments and other professionals in Africa. As a result, it is easily able to manage cross-border matters on behalf of its local and international clients.

The firm’s expertise is frequently recognised by independent research organisations.
