South African advocates and attorneys with over ten years of experience are being urged by the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services to apply for the position of Deputy Public Protector (DPP).
Thursday's call for applications and nominations comes following the vacancy for the position created when then DPP Kholeka Gcaleka took on the Public Protector role.
Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services chairperson Bulelani Magwanishe said applicants must be South African citizens with at least 10 years of practicing as an advocate or attorney; or must be qualified to be admitted as an advocate or an attorney and have at least 10 years after being qualified or have lectured in law at a university; or must have 10 years of specialised knowledge of or experience in the administration of justice, public administration or public finance; or must have been a member of Parliament for at least 10 years; or have a combination of the listed qualifications for a cumulative period of at least 10 years.
CVs and nominations can be sent to Dppvacancy@parliament.gov.za by no later than 16 February 2024 at 16:00 and further enquiries should be addressed to Mr Vhonani Ramaano on 083 709 8427.
“A list of all the nominations/applications received will be published in order to allow members of the public to comment on the suitability of candidates. The shortlisted candidates will be subjected to a screening process,” Magwanishe said.
The annual salary for the position is R1 924 542 and Magwanishe explained that the DPP is appointed by the President following a recommendation by the National Assembly.
