Following the corruption scandal around former Drakenstein mayor Conrad Poole, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced the election of Stephen Korabie as the new mayor in the Western Cape municipality.
Poole was removed through a motion of no confidence in February following allegations of corruption against him, brought by the GOOD party.
Korabie, a Proportional Representative for the DA, has served in council since 2021.
“He brings with him years of experience, an outstanding work ethic and dedication towards serving the people of Drakenstein. The Governance Performance Index report has recently named Drakenstein the best-run secondary city in the country, and we are confident that Mayor Korabie will continue to build on the many successes already achieved in the municipality,” the party said.
