International Women's Day is an important day to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and to call for gender equity and justice. In line with the 2023 theme, which is “Embrace Equity”, the African National Congress Women’s League National Task Team (ANCWL NTT) calls on everyone; political parties, civic organisations, business, education sector, and the state in its entirety amongst others, to advance gender equity and promote a more inclusive and just world.

Gender equity means ensuring that everyone, regardless of their gender, has equal access to opportunities and resources, and that they are not discriminated against based on their gender. It means creating a society where women and girls are empowered to fully participate in all aspects of life, including education, employment, leadership, and decision-making.

To embrace equity, we must take concrete actions to address the systemic barriers that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential. This includes challenging gender stereotypes, promoting women's leadership and participation in decision-making, ensuring equal pay for equal work, and addressing the gender pay gap. It also means taking action to end gender-based violence and harassment, promoting women's access to quality health care, and providing support for women's reproductive rights.

We can all play a role in advancing gender equity and promoting a more inclusive and just world. This International Women's Day, let us commit to taking action to create a more equitable world for women and girls. Together, we can build a future where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive, regardless of their gender.
