The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the decision of the High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division, Makhanda, dismissing the urgent application challenging the ANC's candidate lists for the 2026 Local Government Elections. The ANC notes the outcome of the matter and respects the authority of the courts and the rule of law.

The ANC is a democratic movement with established organisational processes and mechanisms through which members are able to raise and resolve grievances. The ANC continues to encourage its members to utilise and exhaust the internal processes of the movement. Organisational discipline, respect for collective decisions and adherence to the Constitution of the ANC remain fundamental to the unity and cohesion of our movement.

The ANC calls on its members, structures and supporters in the Eastern Cape to close ranks and remain focused on the immediate task of engaging communities ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections. Our energies must be directed towards strengthening the organisation on the ground, listening to the concerns of our people and mobilising communities around the ANC's programme of action. The task before us is to earn the confidence of the people through hard work, unity and disciplined organisation.
