The African National Congress (ANC) is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Doctor Ben Ngubane. He passed away in the early hours of this morning from COVID-19 related complications.
Dr Ngubane will go down in the history of South Africa as a committed servant of the people who went beyond his duty in service to his nation. Ngubane served on the Convention for a Democratic South Africa (CODESA) working group which dealt with constitutional principles and constitution making. In 1993, he was also involved in negotiations aimed at defusing tensions between the ANC and the Inkatha Freedom Party.
He served in a number of key positions including that of Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Eskom Board Chairperson, SABC Board Chairperson as well as Minister of Arts and Culture.
The ANC conveys its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr Ngubane. May they find solace in knowing that their grief is shared by the entire nation.
May Dr Ngubane's soul rest in eternal peace.
