46 Dr AB Xuma Street : We wish to inform members of the fourth estate that the new elected Regional Executive Committee in eThekwini Region convened its first official meeting which is currently underway.
Judging by the messages that we continue to receive from comrades and ordinary members of society, it is very clear that the nation is expecting a lot from us.
Having assumed our responsibilities, we want to make a bold statement that political freedom without economic freedom is incomplete.
Our most serious of challenges have remained that of grinding poverty and unemployment exacerbated by the external economic conditions.
We have agreed that the time is now for the people of eThekwini to taste the fruits of this freedom that was ushered in by the sweat and blood of many departed cadres of our movement.
The REC has also agreed to work with members of the media to inform the public at large about the programme of action of this glorious movement of our people.
Apart from media and public statements, we undertake to convene press briefings and other interactions to allow members of the fourth estate to interact with the regional leadership.
We therefore wish to invite members of the Media to attend the post REC Media Briefing in which the leadership will reflect on the following matters:-
1. REC Programme of action;
2. ANC Response to floods;
3. EThekwini approach towards KZN Provincial Conference;
4. Alignment of EThekwini Council to ANC Region;
5. Step-aside policy proposition.
This media briefing is scheduled as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 26 April 2022,
Venue: Ohlange Institute - Inanda
Time: 10h30am
By hosting this press briefing in the venue where our former President Nelson Mandela voted for the first time in a democratic election, we are paying tribute to this towering giant of our times.
We want to remind the whole world that Tata Madiba went to cast his ballot in the first ever election in his lifetime at the age of 72, in Inanda. Thereafter he went to the grave of the first President of the African National Congress Dr John Langalibalele Dube - took a military salute and declared:
“Mr President I am here to report that now South Africa is free!”
