Isibani Sezwe Branch, eThekwini Region Ward 24: Inspired by the creative talent of one of our own, Skye Wanda, as the African National Congress in Victoria Mxenge Zone, we wish to express our appreciation to the South African Broadcasting Corporation for successfully hosting the Metro fm Awards 2023.
Importantly, we pause to pay tribute to the daughter of Chesterville, Skye Wanda after scooping the Metro fm 2023 Best House Song.
There is a feeling of optimism following her achievement. Our message to the young people of Chesterville is that “your dreams will touch the Sky if you let them.”
Apart from demonstrating that believing in your dreams can open doors for you, Skye Wanda has effectively put Chesterville on the national map.
We recall that many protests against the apartheid regime were waged by the people of Chesterville, especially young people. They fought against forced removals and made it difficult for the apartheid to enforce their policies of segregation.
Despite the political freedom that we attained in 1994, we are calling upon the people of Chesterville and young people in particular to unite and build a prosperous township for future generations.
Together, we must leverage of Skye Wanda’s achievement and create more opportunities for the young people of this township and surrounding areas.
There is a lot of talent in this area that we must nourish and unleash for the world to see. We call upon all spheres of the ANC government to come closer to Chesterville and help young people access opportunities aimed at promoting the creative industry.
Once again – congratulations to the Daughter of the Soil – Skye Wanda. Your dreams will touch the Sky if you let them.”
You have raised the flag of Chesterville (Blekes) high. May you soar onto even greater heights and inspire more young people to follow on your footsteps.
Issued by the African National Congress in Victoria Mxenge Zone, eThekwini Region
