The Democratic Alliance (DA) is shocked that the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) disrupted and walked out of the Tshwane Council sitting yet again yesterday, with total disregard to how this could affect residents.
Their walkout prevented the approval of the adjustment budget for the 2019/2020 financial year.
The adjustment budget needed to be approved by 28 February, in order for the city to realign the budget to the identified service delivery needs.
The implication of failing to approve the adjustment budget is that the expected additional revenue and the identified savings on both the operating and capital budgets cannot be re-prioritised towards the accelerated fixing of streetlights, fighting the scourge of cable theft, preventing the escalating vandalism of infrastructure networks of electricity and wifi installations, efforts to remove illegal connections and funding wage settlement costs.
Between 16 January and 27 February 2020, the ANC and EFF disrupted and walked out of five Council meetings in Tshwane, including yesterday’s sitting to pass the adjustment budget.
It is inexcusable that the offending councillors have so little regard to service delivery and are prepared to contavene their Oath of Office and the Code of Conduct for Councillors for the sake of their own petty political agendas.
The DA remains committed to improving the lives of the residents of Tshwane.
