AfriForum will host a blitz conference at their offices in Centurion on Tuesday, 31 January 2017, during which the organisation will release a legal opinion containing various grounds that may probably lead to the ANC’s proposed bill on the prevention and combatting of hate crimes and hate speech being declared unconstitutional.
The civil rights organisation will also release an action plan with which the bill will be opposed.
Adv. Mark Oppenheimer, an expert on freedom of speech, will make a presentation on the legal opinion. Oppenheimer compiled the legal opinion in cooperation with advs. Martin Brassey (SC) and Gretha Engelbrecht.
The cartoon artist Jeremy (Jerm) Nell will also make a presentation on how his profession would be influenced should the bill be implemented.
31 January is also the last day on which the public can submit their inputs on the bill.
