AfriForum is of the opinion that Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko mislead the people after the announcement of the latest crime statistics today.

“The Minister says that they are winning the fight against crime, but crimes such as hijackings, home and business robberies have increased by about 6,1% - exactly the types of crimes that should decrease, but do not,” says Ian Cameron, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety.

Specialist units within the South African Police Service are solutions that may help and that should be better utilised. However, AfriForum once again encourages communities today to join their local neighbourhood and farm watch in an attempt to promote safety within the framework of the law themselves.”
