The civil rights organisation AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches will launch national patrol projects across the country from 1 to 31 December to increase their overall visibility during the festive season. If the current level 1 restriction continues to apply over December, there may be an increase in crime.

In 2020, criminal activity increased by more than 50% during the last six months of the year. Therefore, it is important that community safety structures are geared with confirmed information, feasible strategies and coordinated actions and cooperation between all role players.

AfriForum currently has more than 160 neighbourhood watches across South Africa. The neighbourhood watches are ready to improve the safety of their respective communities over this period.

During the festive season, two different security initiatives will be undertaken by AfriForum’s safety structures. The first one is the national patrol and for the second one the neighbourhood watches are going to be operating especially over the Christmas weekend to curb crime.

“The more people join AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches, the greater the ability to deal with the tide of crime,” says Raymond Hohls, Operational Manager for Community Safety at AfriForum.

AfriForum wants to encourage people to join the organisation’s safety structures in their communities. Join AfriForum today: SMS your name to 45353 (R1).
