Human rights non-government organisation Africa4Palestine has welcomed the departure of Israel’s Ambassador to South Africa, Eli Belotserkovsky.
Belotserkovsky is said to have been recalled for “consultations” following comments made by the South African government describing the Israeli campaign in Gaza as “genocide”.
Parliament was expected to vote on whether to expel the Israeli Ambassador and close the Israeli Embassy on Tuesday.
The organisation has reiterated its stance by calling for the end of what it holds to be Israel’s unlawful occupation of Gaza and asserts that this serves as the only path towards a sustainable and equitable solution for all.
“Israel today is being isolated and is self-isolating from the peace and justice-loving peoples of the world. This marks a crucial step towards holding Apartheid Israel accountable for its violations of international law. People and countries across the globe are making it clear: no normal relations with an abnormal State,” said Africa4Palestine spokesperson Tisetso Magama.
The organisation has also hailed the calls made by citizens supporting the government in its efforts to take firmer action against Israel following its attacks on Gaza, affecting many Palestinian people.
