After deliberately allowing her EFF caucus to disrupt and postpone the previous council meeting held last week on 30 November 2023, delinquent ANC-EFF Speaker, Cllr Tshivhenga, still has not reconvened a critical council meeting where important compliance items and the institutional review of the City needed to be approved.

It is an open secret that the ANC-EFF coalition do not want the much-anticipated institutional review to be adopted and are using their deployee, Cllr Tshivhenga, to collapse council. The ANC cannot distance itself from the behaviour of their alliance partners in Ekurhuleni. The decision to give the EFF critical positions in council and the executive, was a direct result of the unholy alliance between the ANC and EFF.

To this effect, ActionSA will report the entire EFF Caucus as well as the Speaker herself to the Ethics Committee, regardless of whether the delinquent Speaker decides to do her job or not. Council meetings do not come without cost, which means her irrational decisions are directly leading to wasteful and fruitless expenditure.

ActionSA will not allow this. The institutional review is already 2 years overdue, and we have made it clear that we need to trim down top management, fill key technical positions and orientate the City towards delivering basic services.

ActionSA is also aware that EFF MMC’s, who are responsible for key service delivery MMC portfolios such as Water, Sanitation & Energy as well Waste, are sitting on dozens of contracts and reports which need to be signed in order for service delivery to go ahead.

It is well known that the EFF is using their MMC positions in the City to create patronage networks with their preferred suppliers who siphon money back into the EFF.

The ANC-EFF alliance has led to the City being pushed to the brink of financial collapse, and now under the tyrannical rule of Cllr Tshivhenga, opposition Councillors are being silenced in council. As a constructive opposition party, we will continue to hold this government to account using every council law available to us.
