ActionSA stands proud of the achievements of our Parliamentary Caucus during the first term, outperforming larger caucuses on multiple fronts and, more importantly, demonstrating the impact a committed minority party can have in serving the people of South Africa.
Importantly, ActionSA is represented by 6 Members of Parliament (MP) and, to maximise our representation we adopted a strategic approach to ensure comprehensive engagement and coverage across the 34 Parliamentary Committees. By carefully dividing each MP's time across a minimum of 3 committees, ActionSA continues to achieve the broadest possible exposure to every critical discussion and decision impacting South Africans.
It is important to clarify that this intentional approach makes it impossible for any ActionSA MP to maintain full (100%) attendance in a single committee as there are inevitably conflicting committee meetings. However, this is offset by the fact that while an ActionSA MP may be absent from one committee, they are guaranteed to be participating in another, as permitted by the rules.
Furthermore, ActionSA has implemented a clear internal performance monitoring mechanism to ensure that our MPs not only fulfil their constitutional obligations as Parliamentarians but also exceed them through continuous individual oversight visits across South Africa, maximising their time outside of Parliament by engaging with citizens on critical issues affecting their communities and bringing those testimonies back to the corridors of Parliament, as well as committee meetings and plenary sittings.
No greater evidence of our effort this term can be found than in the fact that, despite having only 6 MPs, each with just 3 weekly opportunities, we submitted 101 official Parliamentary Questions, the same number as the official opposition, which boasts ten times as many MPs. Furthermore, ActionSA stands as the only minority party to deliver representations on every budget review report, every motion, every debate, and every opportunity for members statements.
ActionSA demonstrated its commitment to accountability by being the first political party to host a press briefing presenting a report of our Parliamentary Caucus’s 100-day performance, which importantly also featured the launch of ActionSA’s GNU Performance Tracker, a comprehensive index designed to monitor and hold accountable South Africa’s government of national unity (GNU).
In reflecting on the work accomplished thus far, this is merely the beginning of our commitment to working tirelessly to continually improve and ensure that ActionSA is a bastion for the vital work of protecting and advancing the best interests of all South Africans.
