ActionSA has written to the Auditor-General’s office requesting an urgent investigation into reports that over R100 million earmarked for the renovation of Dick Montshioa and Pilanesberg Airports went missing.

According to widely published reports, over R100 million disappeared from the Department of Community Safety and Transport in North West.

We have learnt that R 40 million allocated in the 2020/2021 financial year and a further R 44 million allocated in the 2021/2022 are part of the money that is missing.

The North West Legislature’s portfolio committee on Community Safety and Transport has confirmed that no work was done at the airports and that the management failed to account on the whereabouts of the allocated funds.

The Auditor-General’s office as an office committed to accountability and governance in the public sector, can help us follow the money trail and pinpoint where everything went wrong.

We hope that the AG’s investigation process will produce concrete outcomes which I will use to lay criminal charges against those implicated.

The war against systemic corruption in the North West Government requires urgent action and we believe that requesting an urgent investigation into this malfeasance is a part of that action.

The people of North West deserve a strong, diverse and viable alternative to failed ANC governance and ActionSA is the only party that can offer that.
