ActionSA has today embarked on a nationwide campaign where our national leaders, Team Fix South Africa members and premier candidates will crisscross the country to share our solutions with communities of how we can end crime and corruption when we enter government following the May 29 elections.

It is unacceptable that 30 years after democracy, crime and corruption have spiralled out of control in our communities. It is no longer for children to play safely in our streets, while our women fear for their lives due to the scourge of gender-based violence. Over 84 people are killed in South Africa every single day, while not a single high-profile state capture corruption case has successfully been prosecuted.

An ActionSA government will deal decisively with crime and corruption by, among others, tabling a constitutional amendment that will introduce a Chapter 9 corruption busting agency, extending the minimum term for corruption to 15 years without parole, reintroducing specialised policing units, abolishing parole for serious crimes such as rape, murder, drug syndicates and ensuring prisoners pay their debt to society by engaging in public works programmes.

In the weeks ahead, ActionSA leaders, Premier Candidates and Team Fix South Africa members will share our solutions to end crime and corruption with communities across the country. Gauteng Premier Candidate, Funzi Ngobeni, will on Tuesday visit vandalised and abandoned train and Rea Vaya bus stations around Johannesburg, and Mpumalanga Premier Candidate, Thoko Mashiane will lobby for an investigation into a jobs-for-pals scandal at the provincial education department.

On Wednesday, North West, Kwena Mangope, will visit the Mahikeng International Airport where R75 million was earmarked for upgrades to the airport, but the money has since disappeared. Free State Premier Candidate, Patricia Kopane, will compile a dossier of all the projects corruption accused Edwin Sodi was involved in the province that was never completed. On Friday, Western Cape Premier Candidate, Angela Sobey, will lead a picket at the Western Cape Provincial Police headquarters as the province is ranked the least safe for women.

As a party committed to the rule of law, ActionSA will do everything possible to restore the rule of law in communities across the country. However, the best way to end crime and corruption in South Africa would be to take action to remove the ruling party from government on May 29, and vote for an alternative that will put the people of South Africa first.

Issued by ActionSA President Herman Mashaba
