ActionSA Limpopo Provincial Secretary, Kgoshi Letsiri Phaahla, alongside Provincial Campaign Manager, Victor Mothemela, and Regional Chairperson, Ephraim Ramaremo visited the Royal Family of Kgošigadi Mogoshadi Malepe of Sadowa Ga-Malepe in Hoedspruit.
This meeting signified the beginning of ActionSA's presence in the Royal Councils in the Mopani District. Although ActionSA enjoys ties with Chiefs and Traditional Headmen across the province - from Vhembe, Sekhukhune, Waterberg, and Capricorn Regions, we have previously not established relations with any of the Chieftaincies in the Mopani District.
The sitting consisted of several members of the Royal Council including 28 headman who represent 18 villages under the leadership of Kgoshigadi Mogoshadi Malepe.
During the meeting one could tell that the reality on the ground is deeply disheartening. Communities go for months without reliable water supply; all the while still being subjected to pit latrines for sanitation facilities.
Upon engaging Kgoshigadi Malepe and her community, she indicated that apart from the ANC government disregarding her Chieftancy Status, her people have been deliberately denied basic services by the local and district municipality on the basis that she, Kgošigadi Malepe, had mobilized all her communities not to vote for the ANC during November 2021 Local Government Elections as an outcry over the poor conditions that her people live under and failed governance in the local government structures.
It is unfortunate that the ANC-led government has neglected rural communities and their leadership for too long. However, ActionSA is in the process of remedying this.
As a rural province, we understand the importance of Chiefs and Headmen as key stakeholders in solving real issues in our communities. We will work tirelessly to restore the dignity of our traditional leaders and the communities they lead. The longstanding relationship between Kgoshi Letsiri Phaahla and Kgošigadi Mogoshadi Malepo has been instrumental in reinforcing our continued commitment towards this ideal.
ActionSA Project 2024 continues to intensify and expand, touching the outermost parts of the Limpopo Province and beyond.
Kgoshigadi Malepe will be hosting the provincial and regional Leadership again in the coming weeks, to a Super-Launch where she will be establishing multiple branches in the Maruleng Constituency.
