ActionSA is concerned about the ANC Government’s lack of response to the ongoing protests in Diepsloot where members have taken to the streets in protest because their repeated pleas for the state to address the high crime in the area have fallen on deaf ears.
Alongside a number of ActionSA activists, I attended the court appearance of three Diepsloot community leaders at the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning to show our solidarity with the plight of the community.
At the court, I reiterated ActionSA’s belief that the ANC government is directly responsible for the crisis in the community by allowing the breakdown in the rule of law in South Africa and allowing the country’s immigration system to become dysfunctional.
ActionSA maintains that the ANC should not send proxies to address the community but should listen to the community’s request that President Cyril Ramaphosa, himself, should address the community.
After years of the community begging for the crime situation to be addressed, the very least the ANC government and Ramaphosa can do is come to the community and listen to their concerns.
It remains deeply concerning that the community has to go to this extent to have their voices heard, and ActionSA believes that short-term public relations won’t solve the systemic issues faced but that long-term sustainable solutions need to be implemented.
At the same time, ActionSA commends the community of Diepsloot for remaining calm and disciplined throughout, remaining resolute in their commitment to addressing crime in their area.
As a party which values social justice, ActionSA will maintain its support for the community of Diepsloot and maintain pressure on the ANC government to ensure the community’s concerns are addressed.
