Thuli Madonsela
Thuli Madonsela is a South African advocate, law professor and former Public Protector of South Africa. She served as Public Protector from October 2009 to October 2016, during which time she became one of the country's most prominent public figures for her investigations into government corruption and maladministration. Madonsela is a South African national who rose to prominence through her work in constitutional development and human rights advocacy. Before her appointment as Public Protector, she played a significant role in the drafting of South Africa's post-apartheid Constitution and worked in various capacities within government and civil society focused on equality and justice. During her tenure as Public Protector, she produced several high-profile reports, including the State of Capture report investigating allegations of undue influence over government appointments and state resources. Her work earned her international recognition and numerous awards for integrity and public service. She is known for her principled stance on accountability and her commitment to constitutional democracy. Following her term as Public Protector, Madonsela joined Stellenbosch University as a law professor, where she holds the Law Trust Chair in Social Justice. She continues to be an influential voice in South African public discourse on governance, ethics and the rule of law. Madonsela frequently appears at conferences, public events and in media commentary addressing issues of transparency, social justice and institutional integrity.
