Singapore is a sovereign city-state and island country in South-East Asia, located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. The capital is Singapore city, which encompasses the entire main island and several smaller surrounding islands. With a population of approximately 5.9 million, Singapore is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The economy is highly developed and diversified, ranking among the wealthiest nations globally by GDP per capita, with dominant sectors including financial services, trade and logistics, manufacturing, petrochemicals and technology. Singapore operates as a major international shipping and aviation hub, with the Port of Singapore consistently ranking as one of the world's busiest container ports and Changi Airport serving as a key regional and global transit point. The currency is the Singapore dollar. The country is a parliamentary republic with a multi-party system, though the People's Action Party has governed continuously since independence in 1965. Singapore is a member of ASEAN, the Commonwealth and the United Nations, and maintains a strategic position in regional trade and security frameworks. Its business-friendly regulatory environment, robust infrastructure and strategic location have made it a preferred base for multinational corporations operating in Asia-Pacific.
