Kigali
Kigali is the capital and largest city of Rwanda, located in the centre of the country. The city serves as Rwanda's political, economic and cultural hub, with a population of over one-million people in the metropolitan area. Kigali has emerged as a major technology and business centre in East Africa, attracting significant investment in telecommunications, fintech and digital infrastructure. The city is known for its clean streets, modern urban planning and business-friendly regulatory environment, which have made it an attractive destination for regional and international companies. Kigali hosts the headquarters of numerous government institutions, multinational corporations and technology startups, contributing to Rwanda's ambition to become a regional ICT hub. The city's strategic location in the heart of East Africa positions it as a gateway for trade and connectivity across the region. Major infrastructure developments include the expansion of fibre-optic networks and data centres that support the growing telecommunications sector. Kigali was rebuilt and modernised following the 1994 genocide, with significant emphasis placed on economic development, technology adoption and urban transformation. The city continues to play a central role in Rwanda's Vision 2050 development strategy, which aims to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy.
