Dubai
Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates and the capital of the emirate of Dubai, one of seven emirates that make up the federation. It is the most populous city in the UAE and serves as the country's principal commercial and financial hub. Dubai is located on the south-east coast of the Persian Gulf and has grown from a modest trading port into a global business centre and tourist destination. The city's economy is driven by trade, tourism, aviation, real estate and financial services, with oil revenues now accounting for less than five per cent of its GDP. Dubai is home to the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, and one of the busiest international airports, Dubai International Airport. The city has positioned itself as a luxury tourism and shopping destination, attracting millions of visitors annually with its hotels, malls, beaches and entertainment offerings. Dubai's strategic location makes it a key transit hub connecting Europe, Asia and Africa. The city has invested heavily in infrastructure, including the construction of artificial islands, extensive metro systems and world-class port facilities. Dubai was established as a small fishing village in the eighteenth century and began its modern transformation following the discovery of oil in the 1960s, with rapid development accelerating under the leadership of the ruling Al Maktoum family.
