Transport Minister, Honourable Dikobe Ben Martins will deliver a keynote address at the launch of the Integrated Transport Authority in the city of Cape Town. This event forms part of the activities of the October Transport Month campaign, aimed at highlighting ongoing progress in efforts to provide safe and reliable transport to all South Africans.
The objectives of the Integrated Transport Authority are:
· to ensure effective regulation of the public transport sector;
· facilitate an iIntegrated approach to public transport planning;
· ensure that different modes of public transport complement each other, and
· the equitable distribution of subsidies to bus and mini-bus taxi operators
Joining Minister Martins will be Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Honourable Richard Baloyi, Western Cape Premier, Her Excellency Helen Zille, Executive Mayor of Cape Town Ms. Patricia de Lille, Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works, Robin Carlisle and executive and senior government officials and transport stakeholders.
The dignitaries will sign a pledge to support safety in all modes of transport within the city of Cape Town.
