“As the Committee, we provided an opportunity and platform for the interested groups, including civil society bodies, in March 2013 to present and interrogate South Africa`s report on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Children. This is because we deemed it important to gain the perspectives of stakeholders on this crucial matter,” said Committee Chairperson, Ms Dorothy Ramodibe.
Ms Ramodibe added that they held the discussions in March 2013 with several government departments whose mandates having a bearing on the child rights. These included the Departments of Women, Children and People with Disabilities; Justice and Constitutional Development; Social Development; Health; Home Affairs; Basic Education and Labour.
The Committee has since adopted the report with recommendations on the matter.
