Premier Supra Mahumapelo recently announced the appointment of Professor Tebogo Job Mokgoro as the new Acting Director-General of the Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government. Professor Mokgoro who assumed the position effective Friday, 1 August 2014, succeeds Mr Johannes Rantete who stepped down on 31 July, following the expiry of his deployment contract.
Known for his lifelong passion for an accountable, honest, transparent and effective public service, Professor Mokgoro was the first Director-General of this Province after the democratic general elections in April 1994, the post he occupied until the end of the first administration in 1999.
From the end of 1999 to 2003, Professor Mokgoro served as the Director-General of the Southern African Management Development Institute where he was responsible for ensuring the achievement of ECI Africa’s Strategic Growth and business objectives.
He later established his own company, The Job Mokgoro Consulting, where he was the Managing Director focusing on issues of Local Government Development, Inter-governmental Relations and institutional Transformation. His vast knowledge and experience in Public Administration and Transformation of the Public Service saw him publishing several articles on public management, public policy and public transformation.
Professor Mokgoro was appointed as the Acting Principal of the National School of Government in 2013, and is a visiting Adjunct Professor at the Wits Graduate School of Governance.
“As a highly respected intellectual, we are confident that Professor Mokgoro will ensure that the affairs of the province are run ethically and that we provide the highest level of service,” remarked Premier Mahumapelo.
Professor Mokgoro whom the Premier announced during his State of the Province Address as the central expert appointed to focus on institutional capacity enhancement and the reconfiguration of provincial departments, said his key responsibility is to ensure that there is smooth administration transition. “I am most enthusiastic about the task ahead. I strongly believe that the province has a great opportunity to serve the people and to continue to find ways to improve and evolve that service in line with the vision of re-branding, re-positioning and renewal of the province,” said Professor Mokgoro.
