“Nelson Mandela’s life and contributions served as an example to South Africa and the world of dignity and leadership,” said Agri SA president Johannes Möller after the passing of this icon. “Agri SA wishes to express its sympathy and condolences to Mr Mandela’s next of kin and friends for their loss.”

“His conciliatory attitude was a determining factor for South Africa’s young democracy and nation building. He will be remembered as South Africa’s “Madiba” who fulfilled his task as head of state with vision and compassion.  His zeal for a free society and equal opportunities for all made him worldwide a highly respected leader,” said Möller.

Mr Mandela had an interest in and appreciation for agriculture. Under his leadership, the Rural Safety Summit was held where an agreement was reached on a strategy for promoting rural safety.  With his support, the Agri Securitas Trust Fund was created which continues to provide farming communities with financial assistance to improve their own safety.

“Mr Mandela’s legacy serves as a worthy example and inspiration for leaders in civil society and the political environment. He not only worked for a free society, but also regularly reminded us of the responsibility that accompanies freedom,” said Möller. “In his own words: After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom, comes responsibilities, and I dare not to linger, for my long walk is not yet ended, Möller said.”’
