The recent tragedy where a Cape Town teenager was shot dead while arriving
at school shows a great need for security improvement in schools. IFP
Spokesperson on Police, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu (MP) said, "Improving security
measures in schools is essential and options can include the possibility of
installing security cameras and increasing police visibility, especially in
areas which have been identified as gangster war zones. In addition, liquor
outlets which are next to the schools must be removed."
Ndlovu added, "Schools must increase their efforts if they want to provide a
safe environment for the nations' children. Security measures must include
an effective communication system between security personnel and school
staff and nearby police stations. Parents must know that their children are
safe when they attend school."
