Several analysts have concluded that the local government elections were a watershed event, primarily as a result of the Democratic Alliance’s growth. It is, therefore, worth analysing this conclusion and seeing what the elections significance was, says Prof Dirk Kotzé of the Department of Political Sciences at Unisa.
