“The scandal surrounding the landing of the Gupta plane at Waterkloof is not only an embarrassment for the ANC but for every South African citizen,” Mr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus’ parliamentary leader said today in parliament.

Mr. Groenewald said during a debate in parliament about the report on the issue that the ANC thinks people in South Africa is naive to believe that a director general will investigate his/her own minister and then find him/her guilty.

“Honourable minister Jeff Radebe, if you say that the report states that no minister knew about the landing of the Gupta guests, the report actually says that these five ministers whose departments had been involved had caused a security breach and that they are accountable and responsible for it.

“Because it means that five ministers of South Africa do not have sufficient procedures in place to prevent a security breach from occurring.

“It appears to me that South Africa has unconscious ministers. It is time you wake up. Do you really think that a director general which had been appointed by a minister and who has to investigate a minister will then find that his/her minister had been involved in this matter?

“You are naive if you think the people of South Africa have to believe it. You say you want certainty about the issue. If you really want certainty, appoint a judicial commission of inquiry which will objectively establish whether ministers were responsible or not. I am convinced they will find it to be so.

“I wish to touch on another issue and that is the aspect of friendships with people and groups with money in South Africa.

“Everybody knows that the Guptas have a lot of money. They even said after the whole debacle that South Africa should be grateful, because they had brought people into the country. How arrogant can they be? Who are the Guptas that they can get whatever they want, whenever they want and as they want it just because they have a lot of money?

“Minister, the ANC and the president are tarnishing themselves by being friends with such people, because they do not hesitate to bribe people. It is nothing other than fraud which they used to gain access to the country,” Mr. Groenewald said.

“I have a message for the president of South Africa. I want to tell him to learn from the past. Jackie Selebi called the fraudster and drug lord, Glen Agliotti his friend, ‘finish and klaar’.”

“I want the ANC to go and tell the president that if he retains his friendship with the Guptas, then he will be finish and klaar,” Mr. Groenewald said.
