Patricia de Lille to get her day in court

Patricia de Lille is expected to take center stage in the Western Cape High Court today when she takes on the DA, City of Cape Town and Electoral Commission of South Africa over her mayorship.

DA federal council chairperson James Selfe and his deputy Natasha Mazzone said at a briefing on Tuesday that it was a public declaration which De Lille had made during an interview with Radio 702 host Eusebius McKaiser on April 26, that stripped her of her membership of the party.

They based this on a clause in the party's constitution, which states that, if a member publicly declares his or her intention to resign, that person's membership ceases immediately.

De Lille’s lawyers are expected to argue that the court should urgently suspend her removal from the DA until June.

R10-billion budget slash for human settlements department

De Lille’s lawyers are expected to argue that the court should urgently suspend her removal from the DA until June.

The Department of Human Settlements is on the receiving end of a R10-billion budget cut over the medium term period, while the housing backlog stands at an estimated 2.1-million.

Human Settlements Minister Nomaindia Mfeketo said the national fiscus was under severe pressure and that government was forced to do more with less.

Director general in the department Mbulelo Tshangana said they had lost just over R10-billion over the Medium Term Expenditure Framework's next three years.

Four KZN ANC regions to hold elective conferences this weekend

The four KwaZulu-Natal ANC regions expected to hold their elective conferences this weekend, have successfully convened their branch general meetings.

KZN ANC provincial task team coordinator Sihle Zikalala confirmed that they meet the 70% threshold required to convene their regional conferences and elect new regional leadership.

Zikalala added that the party was confident that the conferences in the Emalahleni, Far North, Musa Dladla and Inkosi Bhambatha regions "will also proceed as planned and will be characterised by frank and robust debates".
