The DA welcomes Professor Cyril Karabus back home after being detained in the United Arab Emirates since August last year.

We commend the Department of International Relations and Co-operation for their tireless efforts in ensuring that Prof. Karabus’s trial was expedited and its assistance in ensuring he could come home to his family.

I have been in contact with the Karabus family and the Ministry throughout the ordeal and share in their relief of having him back in South Africa.

After much uncertainty and delays over the last few weeks, we are sure it is a huge relief for his family and friends to see him firmly back on South African soil.
