A group calling itself "Break the BRICS Coalition" said on Thursday that it will be marching to the Sandton Convention Centre protesting against the BRICS Summit.
"The aim of the march is to raise awareness about the capitalist nature" of the BRICS states [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa] and their anti-working class and environmentally destructive policies," the group's spokesman Trevor Ngwane said.
"It is also to allow different communities, organisations, unions and other formations to use the public platform to put forward their demands in front of the world to see."
Ngwane said that they are also opposed to the $180 million loan activated by the BRICS New Development Bank for cash-strapped Eskom, which it granted the power supplier in 2016. Ngwane said they will hand over a memorandum to a representative of the BRICS.
He said among the members of the Break the BRICS Coalition are from various African and Asian immigrant communities and other dissenting organisations.
Meanwhile, leaders of BRICS countries will on Thursday Maropeng, the official visitor centre to the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, for a two-way link activity, while the 10th BRICS Leaders' Summit continues.
